Backstreet Boys’ AJ Talks Solo Album
by Eve Jenkin
February 28 2006
Sounds like the Backstreet Boys’ resident rebel AJ McLean is back on the booze again from the descriptions he provided MTV News of his upcoming solo album.
When asked which artists he was hoping to collaborate with, McLean named Irish songstress Enya just to “screw people up”. But it seems his intentions aren’t all that crazy, rather refreshingly ambitious. “It's going to be like funk/soul/rock," he explained. "I want to go back to the basics. Live instruments, live horns — something you don't hear on the radio anymore. [Right now] it's all about synthesizers and beats, so [I thought], 'Let's try something else.' " AJ then went on to name other collaborators he was hoping might feature on his album, including Peter Gabriel, John Fogerty, Lenny Kravitz and Al Green.
AJ has slated the album’s release for June 2006, and having worked on it for the past 2 years has amassed a collection of around 40 songs. He also revealed to MTV that the Backstreet Boys are taking an indefinite break to pursue their various solo interests following their recent world tour.
